The largest early modern-era fortification in Central Europe, Fort Monostor of Komárom. Considering its age, type, size and the quality of its engineering, Fort Monostor is an unrivalled example of Central European military architecture. Fort Monostor (or Fort Sandberg) was built between 1850 and 1871. Between 1945 and 1990 Fort Monostor was used by the Soviet Red Army.
