The shrine was built on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the capital's foundation in Kyoto. Free admission. Giant torii gate made of reinforced concrete in front of the shrine. О_о

Beautiful garden behind the shrine. It costs small entrance fee what also prevents too much tourists entering it. So don’t tell anyone ????

旧官幣大社で、祭神は桓武天皇と孝明天皇。明治28年 (1895年) 平安遷都1100年を記念して創建され、京都では一番大きな神社といわれる。10月22日の神幸祭は、時代祭として有名。大極殿や應天門、東西歩廊2棟・蒼龍楼・白虎楼は重要文化財に、額殿・斎館・神楽殿・大鳥居等は登録有形文化財に指定されている。
